An introduction to assisting - why be an assistant and what does it involve? Followed by a look at different film-based camera systems, including ensuring attendees are familiar with loading film with different systems (both 120mm and 5x4).

Introduction to lighting. To include hands-on demonstrations of different lighting systems, including flash, tungsten, HMI. Overview of manipulation and control of light, including balancing different colour temperatures, differences between soft and hard light, and use of diffusers and reflectors.
1-2pm
Lunch (please let us know if you'd like a vegetarian option)
2-3.30pm
An introduction to the role of the digital assistant, including an overview of the importance of system profiling. Digital workflow with different 35mm and medium format digital systems and different RAW file processing packages (ie Capture One, Lightroom, Flexcolour, Adobe Bridge).
3.30-4pm

4-5.30pm
The business of assisting. Finding work. What is expected of you and what to expect. The things you need to know but no-one ever tells you… And making the break from assisting into photography.
