Julian Peters

London, London

Photo Assistant16+ years exp

My name is Julian Peters and in short, I don't have a photography degree. My degree was in music (majoring in cello) through my 20s the cello and the guitar were my main source of income. In the end of my 20s I moved to Japan to teach English for a year. I loved the life and like a whim that got out of control I stayed there for my 30s. It was in Japan where my love of photography really took off. I was head of an English dept in a high school during the day and I really enjoyed the work. I invested in the canon system at first and continued to learn as much as I could about photography and the adobe suites. Apart from the teaching, which kept my visa secure, I spent all my time taking photos and playing with my band at festivals and events. I invested a little in a home photo studio set up and kept learning as much as I could from online sources. About two years ago I switched from Canon to Fujifilm and although occasionally missing full frame, I really enjoy these cameras. Currently using the X-T2 most of the time. That is the brief version. There are of course many details I am more than happy to talk about too. I am happy to be an open book. I am now back in the UK and am starting an Event/Portrait photography business. I feel that I need to learn "properly" though and would relish the chance to be in a real fully equipped studio learning from someone with real experience as a professional in photography. I am flexible and reliable and have been told I have great inter-personal skills and communication. Basically, I really want to learn hands-on and also be of help to someone in the process. I am now in my early 40s, so no longer a youth, I am as fresh as ever though and ready to throw myself into something new. Please have a look at my website and if you think you could help me or I could help you then don't hesitate to get in touch. Kind regards Julian Peters

Greta Lorimer

Brighton, East Sussex

Photo Assistant16+ years exp

My name is Greta, I'm 27 years old, I grew up in Florence, then I moved in Rome where I pursued a BA in Philosophy. Later on, last year, I moved to UK where I got an MA Photography at Brighton University. Going in order, the philosophical studies opened my mind more and more. In fact, exploring the human thought throughout history has been extremely useful in terms of understanding my own potentialities as well as the others? potentialities. However, I felt that I had to deepen my greatest passion - photography - that I might have combined also to my philosophical study somehow. In fact, to me photography is a philosophy, a love for the knowledge of ourselves and of what and who comes across our way. I started to attend a professional school of photography in Rome where I explored Portrait Photography in particular, Photoshop, Video editing and Digital Photography. At the end of the courses I became the assistant teacher of one of the course leaders there. I worked as assistant for 5 years: I engaged with a lot of students of different ages and backgrounds, teaching them the basics of digital photography as well as more advanced digital techniques. Moreover, I helped them to prepare the set, the lightning, the scenic design, etc. So, year by year my technical expertise increased more and more, as well as my people skills. Meanwhile, I decided to undertake a professional course in Reportage and Travel Photography taught by a member of National Geographic Italy. Thanks to that course I gained other essential skills that helped me later, such as storytelling. Furthermore, I have been working for 5 years for a professional photographer - the same that held the course in the school of photography where I worked - who had a personal studio in Colleferro (near Rome): Primopiano Studio. So, I worked as assistant photographer, assistant video maker, assistant photo retoucher, assistant photo and video editor. During my years of assistance, I worked on several different sets: fashion, advertising, weddings, model portfolios, etc. I provided assistance in lighting, backstage photography/video, in carrying tools and cameras and anything needed for the photo shoot. I've loved working hard and being involved in different kind of tasks and initiatives. It helped to challenge myself and the more I worked the more I understood how much I enjoy to help someone else's work and creations. It is always inspiring and enriching. I love team working, engaging with people as much seeing their projects comes to light after all the efforts, and being part of the realisation of their projects has always been a great satisfaction for me. Later on, we formed a team in that photographic studio starting to organise workshops and masterclasses of photography in Rome. I had to take care of several different things, such as looking for a suitable location, handling booking and information services, designing the concept of the short courses, providing lunch for everyone during the shooting day, managing the rota of the participants, etc. I have always done it working in team and I really enjoyed it. After finishing my MA Photography in Brighton, I joined the volunteers team of Photoworks to provide assistance throughout the Brighton Photo Biennial 2018. This experience has been essential to improve my people skills even more and to understand, once more, how much I believe in assisting in photography and anything related.
