I am an enthusiastic fine art graduate who has creative flair, Photoshop experience, and am seeking the opportunity to build on my current skills within a photography studio / on location shoots. I am interested in most types of photography; from portraits, still life, architecture and interiors, to action shoots. Whilst studying BA Fine Art Sculpture at Loughborough University, I documented my work through photography, mainly working with a macro lens on a film-based SLR. I also regularly used Photoshop as an editing tool. During this time I really enjoyed working within a productive environment with a good balance between deadlines and fun. Recently I have been working on a freelance basis for Simon Mackney within his studio in Derby and on location. I have been training in house and have assisted with various types of shoots, from family portraits through to industrial and corporate. I have been responsible for editing digital images on Photoshop for client viewing and have been introducing a fresh approach to Simons portrait photography through creative ideas and re-branding. In my spare time I enjoy taking action shots of surfers and snowboarders and am really interested in pursuing sport photography further. I have my own DSLR and transport. Even though Im predominantly located in Nottingham I would be willing to travel to different locations and am available to work most weekends. I am friendly, loyal, reliable, make good tea and I genuinely feel that I have the ability, and skills to be a great asset as a photography assistant. If you are interested in my assistance or if you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me. Many thanks Faye :o)

Welcome to my profile. I'm a Kent-based photographer, with a full clean driving license and own car, so I'm within an easy distance to London and happy to travel further afield for the right role. I graduated in 2013 with a BA (Hons) in Photography, and have been committed to building a career in the industry ever since. During my studies, I developed a strong technical foundation across both analogue and digital SLR photography, working with formats ranging from 35mm film through to 5x4 Hasselblad and 10x8 large format cameras. I gained hands-on experience in black and white film processing and printing, colour darkroom printing, and enhanced my post-production skills through training in Adobe Photoshop and negative scanning. Alongside this, I was trained in studio lighting and equipment, and took part in weekly seminars that helped refine my visual practice and critical thinking. My final year project focused on masculinity and the male body, which led to a continuing interest in men’s fitness, fashion and portrait photography, with a particular emphasis on editorial work. While at university, I attended a photographic assisting workshop, followed by a further assisting course in London, as I recognised assisting as an essential route into the industry. Since then, I have assisted on a range of shoots, primarily editorial commissions for magazines, alongside an e-commerce product shoot. These have taken place both in studio and on location, giving me a solid understanding of how shoots are structured, the equipment required for different briefs, and the importance of efficiency and professionalism on set. I also enjoy photographing events and have captured many live music performances on the stages at prides such as Pride In London and Brighton & Hove Pride. I am keen to build long-term working relationships with photographers and to become a reliable, regularly booked assistant. I am known for being calm, organised, proactive on set and, as I’m frequently told, for making a very good cup of tea when clients are in.

Hi I'm James (or Jamie whatever you prefer!) I have over 7 years of experience assisting in the photographic and advertising industries. I've returned to assisting on set after managing Alva studios for over three years, during my time there I've accumulated a wealth of technical knowledge, the ability to work under immense pressure and being dedicated to getting the job done no matter the time frame. Prior to this I used to shoot headshots and assist a few photographers. If you're curious about my technical knowledge you can have a gander below; Lighting - Profoto, Broncolor, Elinchrom, HMI's, Briese, Kinoflo. Camera Systems - Canon (EOS & R), Fujifilm (X & GFX), Phase One, Hasselblad (H & X) Computers & Software - Mac OS, Capture One, Phocus, Photoshop CC, Lightroom CC, Indesign CC, Silverfast 8, Flexcolor. I'm familiar with a large variety of film camera systems from 35mm, 120 & 5x4 Field cameras, but have most frequently worked with Nikon F range, RZ67, Pentax 67 cameras. I'm darkroom trained in both B&W and Colour printing and development, while also tinkering with alternative processes such as wet plate collodion (I'm an absolute nerd for anything technically challenging :-) ) In addition to processing film I run a film scanning service, feel free to ask about any samples if you're interested.
